How to Get Started with DonationMatch
1. Create a DonationMatch Login
- Visit donationmatch.com and go to the registration page.
- Enter your name, email address (use an official organization email if possible), and desired password.
- Creating an account allows you to save and access your application details and activity.
2. Add Your Nonprofit Profile
- Select the "Nonprofit" option to create a profile for requesting donations.
- If you already have an account and need to add another organization:
- Log in.
- Click the downward arrow in the upper-right corner.
- Select "Create New Profile" from the dropdown menu.
- Tab through pages to complete all required fields (marked with an asterisk *) and submit your profile for review.
Nonprofit Verification Process:
- Our team will review your organization's exempt status, website, and your authorization to solicit donations using its EIN (or BN in Canada).
- You’ll receive an email once your profile is activated or if more information is needed.
- Reviews typically take up to 2 business days (up to 5 during high-demand periods).
Tip for Faster Verification:
If your organization is exempt by default (e.g., Government, Church, Public School), uploading a completed W-9 or IRS letter showing your organization's name and federal EIN can speed up the process.
3. Add Event Details
- Once your account is validated, you’ll see an "Add an Event" button on your dashboard.
- Fill out the event details carefully—donor companies use this information to decide whether to approve your requests.
- Be thorough and accurate—good grammar and spelling can make a positive impression.
4. Request Donations
- After adding your event, click "Find Donations" in the left menu bar.
- Your donation catalog may take a few moments to load the first time.
- Browse available items, review the terms and details, select a quantity (if needed), and click "Request Item" to submit your request.
- Your organization and event information will be automatically sent to the donor company for review.
If a company referred you to apply through DonationMatch, you can request their donation here if you qualify.
External Donation Pages: You may also see links to donation pages for companies not in our network. These are provided to upgraded accounts to help your efforts.
Important: Donor companies decide independently whether to approve requests. Some may take days or weeks to respond, and some may only reply if they approve your request.
Managing Approved Donations
- Once a company approves your request, you’ll receive an email with delivery, pickup, or printing instructions.
- You may see the status of all requests, offers, and responses in your "My Activity" dashboard.
- We encourage you to thank each donor publicly through your website, newsletters, or social media.
Membership Details
Your account type determines your request and event limits:
Free Membership:
- Send 1 request per day.
- Receive up to 3 approved requests per event.
- Manage 1 event at a time.
- No limit on offers you may accept or requests made to companies that referred you to DonationMatch.
Pro Event Upgraded Membership:
- Removes limits on # requests.
- Enjoy additional features and benefits.
Pro VIP (Year) Upgraded Membership:
- Removes limits on # requests
- Removes limits on # active events you can work on at a time.
